Spencer Borrego and Meredith Green were meant to be. Though both grew up in Texas, they first met at the University of Georgia when Meredith’s roommate and future maid of honor set her up with Spencer for freshman spring formal. That summer, Meredith’s family moved to Dallas and ended up living just 10 minutes away from Spencer’s. They started dating soon after. A few years later, Spencer popped the question while on a walk to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Meredith, who loves all things colorful and floral, chose to celebrate their union at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. “We wanted our wedding to feel like one big, joy-filled celebration of both our story and the people who helped shape it,” says Meredith. “And it truly was!”

D Weddings: Briefly, tell us the story of how you met and got engaged.
Meredith: I grew up in Texarkana, and Spencer grew up in Dallas. Our paths first crossed during our college years at the University of Georgia—Go Dawgs! My roommate at the time (who later became my maid of honor) and her boyfriend set us up for my sorority’s spring formal. We had seen each other around a few times before, but I hadn’t really gotten to know him yet. I did know he was from Texas though, so we were off to a good start!
That formal ended up being the most fun night of my freshman year. Soon after, summer came and Spencer left to work at a summer camp without a phone. We wrote a few letters back and forth, and that same summer, my family moved to Dallas. Once Spencer got home from camp, we realized our families lived just ten minutes apart! We started dating soon after, and the rest is history.
A few years later, Spencer and I planned a day date at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. He suggested parking in a nearby neighborhood—apparently, he knew a “shortcut” that would save us from paying for parking and give us a short walk to the gardens. The neighborhood had the sweetest little park in the center, and as we walked through, he asked if we could sit on a bench for a minute. As soon as we sat down, he pulled out a letter and started reading it, and before I knew it, he was down on one knee!
Afterwards, we went to lunch at the Swan Coach House and then drove to Athens, where our families and friends were waiting to surprise us with an engagement party at my college house. It was the sweetest day and such a full-circle moment.
D Weddings: What was your vision for your wedding day?
Meredith: I’ve always loved the Dallas Arboretum, and since we were getting married in May, I wanted to fully embrace the season—all the vibrant spring florals and fun hues! I’ve never been one to shy away from color, and our planner and vendors brought that vision to life in the most beautiful, effortless way, perfectly highlighting the natural charm of the venue.
More than anything, though, we wanted our wedding to feel like a relaxed, joy-filled celebration of the incredible work the Lord has done in our lives to weave our stories together. Our faith has always been the foundation of our relationship, and it was so important to us that our wedding reflected that!

D Weddings: What did you learn from the wedding planning process?
Meredith: It’s so easy to get caught up in every little detail and decision, but I learned that wedding planning is truly what you make it! For me, it became such a special opportunity to be creative and intentional—to thoughtfully choose each detail for a day I knew we’d look back on forever. It was such a gift to bring those ideas to life alongside some of the most talented vendors in the industry. Our team was incredible, and they made the entire process feel seamless and fun!
Looking back, I’d also say it’s important to keep perspective. It’s easy to get swept up in the planning and preparation, but at the heart of it all, the goal is to marry your person. Don’t lose sight of that! You’re not just preparing for a wedding—you’re preparing for a marriage, and that’s something to be truly excited about.
D Weddings: What were some of your favorite moments from the day?
Meredith: I’ve always been a girls’ girl who loves getting dressed up for just about anything, so getting ready with all my best friends on my wedding day was truly a dream come true! Doing a first look with Spencer was so special — it gave us the chance to share even more moments together throughout the day, which I’ll always treasure.

One of my favorite memories was the reception reveal—seeing every little detail and decision from months of planning finally come together was so surreal and special. Before walking down the aisle, all of my bridesmaids gathered around me, laid hands on me, and prayed over Spencer and me and our marriage. It was one of the most meaningful and powerful moments of the entire day. I know Spencer’s groomsmen did the same for him, which made it even more special.
And to top it all off, the dance floor was unlike anything else! Our friends and family are some of the silliest and most fun people we know, and getting everyone together with such an incredible and lively band made for the best night of our lives. I don’t think I’ve ever danced harder or laughed more!
