Our Favorite Rainy Day Weddings For National Umbrella Day

Some brides count rain on their wedding day as lucky, some view it as ceremony canceller. But, since February 10th is National Umbrella Day, we’re taking a look back at a few of our favorite overcast events. And if you’re one to fret over wedding-day precipitation, we’ve got tips to keep you out of rain’s way.

According to wedding planner Jess Wegner of Jess Wegner Events, if you’re considering tents for the rainy day then it’s important to give the tent company a fair warning so you have your top pick of styles. It’s also important to consider photography when constructing your rain plan. Dallas photographer Carter Rose of F8 Studio advises to ask about your photographer’s experience in making indoor lighting look as bright and luminous as natural light, which goes away during a rainstorm. Jess also gives the advice to have a stain removal kit—which includes Tide-to-Go pens, Shout wipes, an extra pair of shoes, and several large golf umbrellas—in case of rain-caused wedding attire spots.

We’ve seen plenty of weddings that have used rain to their advantage, making the couple’s day even more magical. Erin Byrne and Jimmy Watson decided to keep their ceremony outdoors as the sky started pouring down, utilizing their planner’s stash of umbrellas. “It’s weird to say that the rain was my favorite part of the day, but it was, ” Erin says. “Everyone was such a good sport.” Sarah Brawner and Joseph White took advantage of the downpour on their big day by collecting rainwater in a mason jar to baptize their future children with one day. Lauren Fine and Benjamin Morrissey were caught in the rain walking through their venue, making for the perfect candid photo.

As long as you have proper planning and plenty of umbrellas, your wedding day might not be ruined by rain but made even more special!
