The couple were legally married on January 27, 2023, after which Javier was deployed. He continued to help with wedding planning, despite distance and time-zone differences. “He was gone for a whole year,” remembers Taylor. “Whatever he could help with remotely, he did.”

Originally envisioning an outdoor wedding, Taylor came around to the idea of an indoor option after seeing the Adolphus’ Governor’s Ballroom. Lush florals brought in elements of the outdoors, while the space’s large windows made it feel “bright and beautiful,” says the bride.

Alexa added foil stamping to the menus for a touch of shine and tied them with velvet ribbon that matched the groom’s tuxedo.

Perched alongside the cake are recreations of the couple’s dogs: Shiner, named for the Texas beer, and Oberon, named after a popular ale from the bride’s native Michigan.

This Wedding at The Adolphus Featured Subtle Colors and Lush Florals

At a time when College Station, Texas, was lacking many vegan dining options, the only place Taylor Mullahy could get a decent vegan burger was the Hopdoddy where Javier Perez bartended. Repeat encounters led to grabbing a drink after his shift, and in 2022, Javier proposed on their fourth anniversary. It was “the worst day in October you could imagine,” Taylor remembers with a laugh, but under heavy rain, Javier got down on one knee in front of marquee letters spelling “Marry me.” The self-described indecisive bride leaned on Alexa Kay Events to fine-tune her vision of a wedding that was “soft but not boring,” eventually deciding on The Adolphus as its backdrop. There, the couple hosted an intimate celebration that turned out just as Taylor had imagined.
