Dallas Wedding Planners Dish Out the Pros and Cons of the More Debatable Wedding Decisions

A famous English writer once said, “To be or not to be? That is the question.” But in the world of weddings, the more pressing question is: “To do or not to do?” We sat down with local wedding planners to pick their brains about all the pros and cons of the more controversial wedding decisions and whether to do (or not to do) them.

This week, we checked back in with Jess Wegner of Jess Wegner Events to get her thoughts on a few more topics.

Band vs. DJ

  • A DJ can play the exact song by the exact artist
  • Breaks are less noticeable with a DJ than with a band
  • DJs are typically less expensive
  • Bands tend to feel more energetic in some cases

First Look

  • Pro: You have a truly intimate, private moment with your fiancé

  • Con: Breaks tradition
  • Con: May feel like you didn’t get that “wow” feeling
  • Con: There tends to be less anticipation

Changing Dresses

  • Pro: You get to look stunning in two dresses!
  • Pro: You can have more of a statement ceremony gown and then switch into something more practical for dancing
  • Pro: A great opportunity to wear a family heirloom gown and then change into something that is more current/your style
  • Con: More expensive to buy two dresses
  • Con: You are only in your first dress for a limited time

Changing Last Name

  • Pro: It feels like you’re truly a team
  • Pro: You may like your new last name more!
  • Pro: Most people will call you Mrs. New Last Name anyway, so it keeps you from having to correct people for the rest of you life if you decide to not change it
  • Con: Complicated paperwork and long social security office lines
  • Con: You may like your maiden name more and hate that you have to change it

Selling Your Wedding Dress

  • Pro: Make back some of the money you spent on it
  • Pro: You’ll never wear it again
  • Pro: You could truly be making someone else’s dream come true
  • Con: You won’t have it to pass down to a family member for their wedding
  • Con: You may miss it because of the symbolism it holds
  • Con: You won’t make as much money on it as you paid for it
